wannabe guitar hero

I happened to be given a guitar last year by one of my old coworker. Since it was just sitting there and I was inspired by all that Guitar Hero playing at Velius', I decided to take beginning guitar lessons in January this year. Our local community college offers a adult group lesson class at night. The cost is about 120 bucks for 8 hours of lesson which is not bad as far as classes go. It was a pretty fun class although he taught us way more stuff than we can actually learn. Since it was an adult education class there is no exams nor grades nor anything that can motivate one to actually practice afterwards. So I decided to record myself playing this first song I learned. In a way it forces me to practice so to actually be able to play this song in one sitting. I think it will be amusing to come back a year later and see if I have improved or deteriorated (or practiced even -_-!). So, here is my attempt at Youtubing :) Me playing House of Rising Sun by the Animals

And if you don't want to hear me butcher a perfectly good song, here is the real version with real guitar playing :).

Hey, that's pretty good! Awesome combination of youtubing and guitarlearning.

Sometimes I go back and read my own blog entries and it is typically a godly mix of hilarious and mortifying =D.

Hey not bad at all! *claps*

Since you actually know how to play, how does actual guitar playing compare to Guitar hero?

well, a real guitar is much more painful on the fingers. It is like subjecting to self torture =P

Wow, that was pretty awesome. Your singing and guitar skillz complemented each other quite well. *Cheer!* :)

The next Battle of the Guitar Heroes with real guitars will be interesting. Will Kung finally meet his match? To be continued...

If it's Stringed Instrument Hero, I'll gladly break out my viola and practice :)

Bring it on!, although I think kung has a natural advantage just by being able to withstand more pain than I.

Wow, that's actually very good. I was half expecting some screeching and bleeding ears, but that's extremely awesome. Good job!

You were able to do this only after 8 hours of lessons? That's pretty gewd! Have you developed any blisters on your fingers?

By the way, what kind of guitar are you using?

That's not bad for your first time. As you build up the hand strength and work your blisters into callouses, the notes will come across much smoother.
